About Me

I am a leader, developer, writer, backpacker and minimalist living in Salt Lake City, UT. I was raised in the south where I met my beautiful wife, Joanna, in middle school where we started dating. Close to twenty years and four beautiful kids later, we’re enjoying our rhythm in life.

Jo now writes curriculum for a charter school and I work for a day (and dream!) job at RAIN, a digital consultancy focused on creating solutions for humans, as VP of Engineering and serve on the exec team, work on various internal labs projects, as well as with clients like Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks and other companies you’ve probably heard of. I’ve had articles featured in a few online tech blogs and digital media sites. I spend whatever time is left on my own open source, enterprise software or other projects and writing and dreaming about the future.

Here’s some more things that I likes, in no particular order:

Backpacking: Having only recently gotten into it since moving to Utah, my goal for next year is a week long solo hike. I’ve done one, two and three night stays locally here in Utah (Kamas and Zion) as well as the Sawtooth Mountain range in Idaho.

Bob Dylan: I’ve been a fan since high school and Moonshiner is a near perfect song (that’s The Tallest Man on Earth’s cover).

Beer: And whiskey too! I’m always down for a drink – especially if it’s local. My favorites breweries/distilleries include High West Whiskey from Park City, UT, the Uinta Brewing Company in Salt Lake, High Sierra out of northern California and, recently, Kona Brewing in Hawaii. Also, most everything to be brewed in Seattle by Elysian Brewing (especially the Space Dust IPA) is killer.

Writing: I write fiction and non-fiction. Most of my non-fiction is focused on the tech scene right now while my fiction is something totally set apart.

Music Lover: My favorite concert of last year was Explosions in the Sky here in SLC. I’ve been a fan since Friday Night Lights in high school and seeing them perform live was one of the best nights of my life.

Minimalism

Food: There are a ton of devs who like cooking (and woodworking, I’ve noticed). I think it’s the immediacy of creation/consumption not often afforded by our day jobs. At any rate, I’m always down for cooking up a good meal or going out for something fresh.
